Yoinked from John Scalzi and msagara: One Star Review Challenge!

A challenge to other authors with blogs, LiveJournals and etc: Post your one-star (or otherwise negative) Amazon reviews, if you have them, and you probably do. Oh, go on. Own your one-star reviews, man. And then, you know. Get past them. If you're lucky, some of them might actually be fun to read. For the purposes of this meme and my flist, Fanfiction.net, guest book, and LJ entry type reviews from disgruntled fans asstards are also more than acceptable.

For Three Shades of Night:

I found this book to be an extremely hard read due to it's implausible character interactions and disjointed plot line(s). The conversations that take place between everyone sound like a poorly run convention game with inexperienced players. Combined with the repeated use of the "yeah, this kind of thing is (insert adjective), but this time it was REALLY (same adjective)". Unfortunatley the First story in the book suffers the worst, therefore giving a bad starting point for the other two. It seems like the main character has more things happen to him than actually doing things. Every major plot movement is instigated by the Main Characters literally stumbling upon seemingly random events or items, which may or may not get explained away later. Most are just left there for you to forget that they were mainly just accidents or incidently encounters. It's like Indiana Jones walking through Manhattan and accidently falling through an open manhole to discover an ancient indian burial ground underneath.

For Tactical Romance Strikeforce One!

What are you stupid! Damn Mustadio is a boy you deranged fanatics! You made Ramza and Mustadio gay! Aw gawd! I feel sick!

Note: this is not a solicitation for ego-stroke but shared schadenfreude. I'm in that kinda mood today.

... made Ramza gay?

Mustadio, I don't know, but one does not have to make Ramza gay any more than the game writers did.

Glad am I to know that there's someone else out there who thinks that subtext wasn't so much 'sub.' Also, what makes this particular "review" even more eye-gouging than most is: 1. The fic was written for a comm called video_game_yaoi which should have been something of a clue and 2. THE FIC CONTAINS NO ACTUAL SEX.

Ramza is very, very closeted homosexual, at least that's the vibe I get from him. He probably also has little to no conception of what he wants to do with whoever he's interested in despite his interesting upbringing.

I think he's gay for Delita myself, and of course Delita doesn't have any interest in him above and beyond using his loyalty in classic asshole fashion.

I mean, Agrias is manlier than Ramza. When I first picked FFT up, old translation and all, it took the cutscene with Barbaneth dying to get me to realize Ramza was a SON and not a daughter.

On the other hand, though, Sean and I both agree that Agrias is manlier than some men, up to and including Beowulf, so...

I want to be Agrias when I grow up.
